Required co-nutrients come from other sources like pure Chinese Sea Salt, Seaweed and Sunlight. Another great source of both Calcium and Magnesium is dark, green Pistachios. I buy these in 25-50lb sacks. Pistachios are my rice, beans, meat and bread. In other words, my diet revolves around Pistachios, Avocados, Greens and non-sweet fruits like Peppers, Cucumbers, nuts and seeds. Calcium is essential to life and is found in every cell. This is why Calcium myths create so many severe health challenges. Calcium problems usually show up as osteo-arthritic or pathogenic symptoms - Osteoporosis and Candida. Many people die each day from osteo-arthric symptoms. Each time you hear of a so-called elderly person dying soon after they "fell and broke a bone", usually this means death because of some form of Calcium Leaching or missing co-nutrient. Calcium Leaching means draining and exhausting Calcium reserves in the body. This is very different from Calcium deficiency, which suggests a lack of Calcium. Most people have huge Calcium reserves and create so-called deficiencies by eating an acidifying diet. We'll get to this in a moment. First let's look at some of the many functions of Calcium. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Calcium Functions ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Calcium is the great healer. Calcium determines quality of: - muscle tone - strength, power and endurance - vitality and longevity - wound healing speed - regulation of metabolism - alkalizing body acid - water soluble Calcium clears compounded Calcium (arthritis, gall/kidney/organ stones, etc.) from bodies - increases resistance to pathogens (fungus, mold, Candida, viruses, bacteria, parasites) The primary bank (storage facility) for Calcium is our bones. Secondary storage is in blood, tissue, nerves, muscles and teeth (another type of bone). Magnesium and Vitamin D are required for correct Calcium uptake (absorption). Salt (Sodium) helps keep Calcium in solution. Calcium must be water soluble to be useful to our bodies. Iodine is required for the correct uptake of both Calcium and Silicon. Do be aware the source of these co-nutrients is vital for Calcium metabolism (many complex chemical reactions) to work. Here are some sources of these co-nutrients which strongly interfere with Calcium metabolism: - Vitamin D enriched dairy products, especially milk which coats foods with milk fat and strongly interferes with digestion. - All animal foods and other complex proteins like soy, cooked beans/legumes which create acid pH and cause rapid Calcium Leaching to keep bodies alive. - Most Iodine supplements which are either compound Iodine or some substance which barely resembles Iodine. And please steer clear of Salt with Iodine added. This form of Iodine, in my opinion, will eventually be shown to be a primary contributer to hypo and hyper thyroidism. The best source of Vitamin D is 100% Raw, Vegan Sunlight. Instead of eating animal products, eat the darkest, green, leafy veges you can find. Strong, fresh herbs from your garden are best, especially Basil and Arugala. In other words, eat down on the food chain. Eat what animals eat to get their Vitamin D. Great sources of Calcium and Magnesium again are dark, green, leafy veges like Spinach and Basil. Also nuts and seeds, especially the Cashew family which include Pistachios which you'll notice are also dark green. The best source of human assumable Iodine is Seaweed. Second best is pure Chinese Sea Salt. If you're concerned about Calcium, you have to start with Sunlight and Seaweed or all the Silicon, Magnesium and Calcium you consume will never get metabolized into bone, blood and tissue. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Myth #1 - Calcium Builds Strong Bones ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is a complex myth, because bone building is complex. We'll start with Egyptian Mummies. Testing bones from Mummies has surfaced interesting data. Bones of these people primarily contain Silicon, rather than Calcium. Mummy bones are very strong, compared with bone build from Calcium which tends to be much more rigid and brittle. Bone built from Silicon tends to be flexible. Silicon based bone is more like trees, bending in strong wind then returning to form when pressure is removed. If the body has Silicon in abundance to use, it will begin replacing Calcium with Silicon in bones. Next comes Magnesium. If Silicon is in short supply, bodies fallback to Magnesium. This is talked about in detail in "Biological Transmutations", which is one of the most fascinating books I've ever read. You can pick up a copy here: http://RadicalHealth.com/nfl In summary, if Magnesium is plentiful, bodies convert Magnesium to a highly soluble and biologically active form of Calcium. As a last recourse, the body uses Calcium directly from fluids (metabolized dietary sources) to build bone. So if you're trying to build strong bone, eat a diet plentiful with shinny skinned Raw veges. Shinny skin says "Silicon rich". Red Bell Peppers, other Peppers, Cucumbers, Tomatoes for Silicon. Also eat plenty of Pistachios for Magnesium. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Myth #2 - Blood Calcium Levels ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The entire mainstream science of blood Calcium levels is about as much nonsense as Iron/Anemia foolishness, which I'll talk about in another issue. Calcium blood levels go high for two primary reasons: 1) The person is eating an acidifying diet. 2) Rarer, a person's para-thyroid is malfunctioning. Acidifying diets include eating mucho complex protein like meat, dairy, rice, beans, soy, raw nuts (ungerminated). Even worse offenders are acid liquids like coffee, many teas and soft drinks. Another great offender is incorrect Food Combining. I rarely think about Food Combining anymore because everything I eat combines well, except some melon and fruit which I eat alone. Food Combining is another topic, you'll be served to research. In essence, eat proteins and starches separately. Eating meat, potatoes and a dessert is a recipe for acid pH and big-time Calcium Leaching. If you have to eat foods which are less than your highest good, eat them separately. You can quickly tell if a person's diet is acidifying by looking at their skin, as dehydration is a side effect. Smooth, moist skin points to great alkaline balance. Dried, cracked skin points to acid pH. Do keep in mind, if you're choosing any of the above eating styles you're skin will remain smooth and moist until extreme dehydration and Calcium Leaching sets in. At this point, skin deteriorates quickly. Best to develop great habits now, rather than when you require them. As for the parathyroid, we go back to Seaweed. Daily emerald green Seaweed like *Raw* Kelp, Nori or Wakame will quickly balance most parathyroid situations. Likewise, cooked Seaweed will aggravate parathyroid challenges. High Blood Calcium levels mean one of two things: 1) Body fluid pH is so acidic Calcium Leaching is happening at a frightening pace. 2) The type of dietary Calcium coming into the body is to toxic to eliminate quickly, so it is being circulated until it can be eliminated. So if a person is diagnosed with "low Calcium" and put on Calcium supplements and a diet rich in animal/soy products then their body fluids will go acid, which will cause rapid, mass Calcium Leaching from bone into blood. This means blood levels of Calcium will soar and the doctor will pronounce the person's Calcium problem is fixed. This happened to one of my dear friends. She was in great health with some minor drop in bone density. A doctor put her on a heavy animal/soy protein diet and Calcium supplements. Her Calcium blood levels soared. He pronounced her well on the way to recovery. A few weeks later she was dead from our good friend "osteo related complications". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Myth #3 - Calcium Supplements Increase Bone Density ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Even if there is plentiful dietary Silicon, Calcium will still be plentiful in bone. The Calcium uptake path (pump) is a simple mechanism. Magnesium levels must be 3-4 times Calcium levels for Calcium to pump "into" bones. You'll notice most Calcium supplements have twice as much Calcium as Magnesium. This encourages the pump to work in reverse and research seems to indicate this reversal causes various degrees of Calcium Leaching. So if you are taking a human assumable Calcium supplement, make sure your supplement has 3-4 times more Magnesium than Calcium or at best you'll get no Calcium uptake or at worst your supplement may cause Calcium Leaching. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Myth #4 - Coral Calcium Is Good For You ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We'll skip pass the evil aspects of most Coral Calcium: 1) Harvested from shallow, polluted waters 2) Some unscrupulous harvesters are now harvesting live Coral which is destroys ecosystems. There are several reasons to avoid Coral Calcium: 1) Molecule size 2) Human assumable 3) Water insoluble 4) Magnesium ratio of 375x+ to one For minerals to operate correctly in the body they must be the correct size or be able to migrate to the correct size easily. This is why Angstrom Minerals provide most people with such rapid results. Angstrom Mineral particles are so small they are absorbed directly by cells, on contact. Coral Calcium is large molecule rock. Calcium must be human assumable, which means biologically active. This is why Goji Juice, Angstrom Minerals and juicy, silicon rich veges like Red Bell Peppers balance Calcium deficiency symptoms so quickly. The Silicon in Red Bell Peppers seems to reduce load on Calcium reserves. In fact, a great experiment is pure Red Bell Pepper or pure Spinach juice. See if one or the other gives you relief of any Calcium symptoms you're experiencing. Coral Calcium is dead rock. There is little or no electrical charge. Coral Calcium is a biologically inactive substance. As ground rock, Coral Calcium is water insoluble, unless processed very specifically. You can test this by mixing a dose of Coral Calcium into water. If the Coral Calcium sinks to the bottom of the glass or you can hold the water up to sunlight and see particles then it's water insoluble. Coral Calcium's worst offense is it's Magnesium ratio. After checking several Coral Calcium products the best one had: +++ 375 times more Calcium than Magnesium +++ Getting any amount of Calcium into bones with this level of Magnesium imbalance is a large stretch of imagination. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Myth #5 - Calcium is Calcium is Calcium ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We've touched on this a bit already. Calcium has to be the correct molecular size, biologically active and human assumable. If you're looking for great Calcium sources try experiments with: - Goji Juice - Angstrom Minerals - Dark Green Herbs - Raw, freshly juiced Spinach - Raw, freshly juiced Red Bell Peppers ~~~~~~~~~~~ Wrapping Up ~~~~~~~~~~~ As I said in my article introduction, email me for more info on Yemiah and my preferences of sources for: - Goji Juice - Angstrom Minerals - Raw Shelled Pistachios Kernels - Other Calcium related co-nutrients Enjoy your best day ever! - David Favor
