Here are some of the hazards of GSH supplements. 1) GSH is produced inside cells and normally is blocked from passing into cells from outside. Thus, oral GSH registers as a toxin which must be detoxified. Research shows for cellular GSH levels to rise to a clinically beneficial level, massively toxic amounts of GSH must be taken. Further research suggests raising GSH levels from oral GSH only occurs when the body's ability to detox oral GSH has been exhausted and is in toxic shock. 2) GSH supplements may contain free form cysteine or cysteine complex. Many of these are highly toxic and when ingested register such toxicity, all a body's energy will focus on detoxifying these substances until they are broken down and neutralized. Free form cysteine and synthetically designed cysteine complexes are completely destroyed in the digestive tract until this mechanism becomes exhausted. At best these substances sap energy away from detoxification which is better put toward cellular regeneration and longevity. At worst these substances are so toxic they can quickly exhaust detoxification mechanisms which are meant to destroy them. Once these these defense mechanism are exhausted cellular uptake of GSH and free form cysteine can occur. Worse, there may be other substances even more toxic which are allowed cell access once these defense mechanisms become exhausted.
